Sociopaths = vampires?

Does this seem familiar? The plot of the Swedish film "Let the Right One In":
A fragile introverted boy, 12-year-old Oskar (Kåre Hedebrant), is regularly bullied by his stronger classmates but never strikes back. His wish for a friend comes true when he meets Eli (Lina Leandersson), also 12, who moves into the apartment next door with a man who is presumably her father. But coinciding with Eli's arrival is a series of disappearances and macabre murders—a man is found strung up in a tree, another frozen in the lake, a woman bitten in the neck.

Captivated by the gruesome stories and by Eli’s idiosyncrasies (she is only seen at night, and unaffected by the freezing cold), it doesn't take long before Oskar figures out that Eli is a vampire. Nevertheless, their friendship strengthens, and a subtle romance blossoms as the youngsters become inseparable. In spite of Oskar’s loyalty to her, Eli knows that she can only continue to live if she keeps on moving. But when Oskar faces his darkest hour, Eli returns to defend him the only way she can...

Based on the best-selling novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist, Swedish filmmaker Tomas Alfredson weaves friendship, rejection and loyalty into a haunting and darkly atmospheric, yet poetic and unexpectedly tender tableau of adolescence.
The connections between sociopaths and vampires are obvious. Sociopaths are sometimes described as emotional vampires, and modern day vampire covens seem to be all about the psychopath. Some think that the vampire myth originates from vampires. It makes sense: life-sucking, preternaturally powerful, charming, seductive, dangerous... and somehow always falling in love with or befriending normal humans. Hard to know why that is, but I hope all the vampire love will spill over a little onto the sociopaths.

  1. Hey, that's pretty interesting, on account of my mom and I always used to refer to sociopaths as vampires. We ourselves have bipolar disorder (a very different diagnosis, not really related to personality) and sometimes we joke about being werewolves. So there are werewolves and vampires.

  2. As an ostensible "sociopath" myselves, I identify more with Werewolves. Ever hear that song by Warren Zevon?

  3. I think the connections between the vampire mythos and sociopaths is blatant and self-evident and that plainly the vampire myth comes - at least in part - from the behavior of sociopaths.

Further, I honestly believe that the infatuation with vampires by so many empaths simply exemplifies a very real desire on their part to be prey, to be objectified, abused, used and then tossed aside by someone stronger than they are. I think empaths are inherently masochistic, at least emotionally; and since I am inherently sadistic it makes for a good match. I give them what they want and they do the same for me.

Not only do I think the vampire/sociopath association is obvious, but I even play upon it. No, I don't dress up like a vampire or have a blood fetish or anything, but I do play along with the vampiric seduction technique and appeal. And when you have a real sucker on the line, someone just so desperate to be used for fear of loneliness, it can be wonderful. Testing their limits and making them sink lower and lower, debasing and degrading themselves in an impossible quest to "top from the bottom" and enslave me in "love".

It is simply intoxicating and fabulous and all their own fault. I just provide the impetus to allow them to lay aside their ego and pretensions and become the submissive slave they really want to be. Neither the vampire myth nor the sociopath could flourish if it weren't for the fact that so many of the sheep want to be devoured and are stupid enough to lay their hearts on our tongues and dare us to bite. Oh no, they want to be be bit, there can be no doubt about it, and I am happy to oblige. :)

  4. I agree, Dyonysus. Mos everything you've said here is common knowledge at least for me.

    M.E.,

This movie is another good example of the effect upon Scandinavian movie-making the national mentality and situation has.

I'll let a friend of mine take the word:

"People there are bred specifically to not grow up, to be children of the state who can't - and wouldn't if they were 'allowed' to - think for themselves and make their own decisions.

Also, the theme around the boy who gets bullied is a very central topic to the Scandinavian countries. They have - according to sociological reports that keep coming - been haunted by a bullying-pest for decades, but even more so by a self censure where no one is allowing themselves nor each other to differ from the mainstream (ref. Hans Christian Andersen's "The Ugly Duckling", and many others).

  5. Vampires come from Vlad the Impaler, so yea I'd say Vampires can be pretty sociopathic. I thought emotional vampires were those creepy kids in the corner at parties that enjoyed ruining the mood?

It sickens me to see someone submit to me. Unless they deserve it, I have no satisfaction from their pain. So many sub guys out there bowing and scraping. I'd probably send them to the hospital if I let loose on one. I'd rather emotionally scar up a dominant type just one time and call it a day.

  8. Although Vampires can be seen in lore around the world at various times from a few centuries ago all the way to antiquity, it wasn't until the 19th century that the modern stylized sociopathic vampire was popularized. Before, they were pretty much just another thing that goes bump in the night.

That's hardly an ancient throwback to sociopathy.

I do see the modern vampire through pop-culture as being a representation of psychopaths, so long as you don't include the ones that sparkle.

  12. 1. A certain Charisma and charm. They always have an answer, are smooth talkers, and never ever
miss a beat. Excitement is their middle name!
    2. Possess Enormous egos. A sociopath will often act like they are the smartest, most successful, or richest man/woman around. They often like to brag about that.
    3. Super-duper Overly attentive. What may seem flattering a first–someone who constantly calls, texts and emails, will quickly turn into someone who wants to be with you every single second, resenting time you spend with family and friends. .
    4. You will see a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality. Just flip the switch to see someone who loves you one minute and hates you the next.
    5. Obsessively Blame others. Someone else, not them is always the cause of their problems. It’s never their fault and and excuse is always close at hand.
    6. Blatant Lies and gaps in the story. When you question them, answers are often vague, sprinkled with stupid ..often outrageous lies. They even lie when the truth would save them.
    7. Super Intense eye contact. You could refer to it as a predatory stare. Pay attention, if you feel chills running down your spine when they look at you…you might want to trust your instincts.
    8. Always Move fast. All of a sudden, YOU are their true love and soul mate. Often a sociopath wants to move right in together or get married NOW!
    9. They can’t avoid the Pity play. They will often appeal to your savior complex or play on your sympathy. They need for you to feel sorry for an abusive childhood that they experience, trouble with psychotic ex, their incurable disease or recent financial setbacks.
    10. Sexual magnetism. Sociopaths draw people to them like a “moth to the flame”.

"just one of the many reasons why I hate humanity.

A while ago someone had shown me a video recorded by the american military in afghanistan, one guy holding the camera to record, and two (or three) other men (I can’t remember exactly it was a while ago) and they had come across this dog who looked like it was starving and needed food and water.

The one soldier goes up to the dog, and the dog starts to wag it’s little tail and starts to become happy and licks the soldier. The soldier then lifts the dog up, walks over to the cliff, and throws the dog over. He then starts laughing histerically while the guy behind the camera says “Oh man dude, why did you do that?”

I just remembered the video today, and I just started bawling. I would do anything for an animal, even die for one. I love my dog with all my life. I could care less if the soldier threw another soldier over the cliff, but a dog?

I really wish I could have been there to push him over and save the dog. I fucking hate humans. All of them."

I feel very uncomfortable around people now.

A customer tried to make small talk with me, and all I could reply back to her was a little nervous laugh, and then I would continue on dusting (yes my duties were to clean for 4 hours, such great use of me)

I can see it now, I’ve just started this new job and already they find me useless.

I wouldn’t be surprised if that bitch tells her husband to get rid of me.

At least I didn’t do what the other new girl did.

Start a fight with a customer.

Not a very good thing to do on your first day, just sayin LOL

I’ve never met the girl yet, since there is a total of 4 staff members, plus 2 store owners.

I’m always either working with the other two experienced staff.

This job was supposed to be a saturday, sunday and monday job, but it’s turned out to be an everyday job. It doesn’t bug me much though, considering it’s way easy and the pay is good, I just have a very hard time when it comes to social interactions with people who couldn’t give a fuck about me, all they want is their purchase and to be out the door.

I would look around and notice everyones eyes gazing upon me.

Then they would look away, except one.

He was standing infront of us.

He just kept staring and staring.

I was about to blow up.

I fucking can’t stand it when people stare at me.

He just wouldn’t fucking quit it.

So I hid behind my boyfriends shoulder, hoping he would stop.

So then he went behind us and just kept watching me.

I have got to be honest here, I’m not the greatest looking person, so I had no idea why this man was so intrigued by me, unless he could sense something.

He didn’t look like a normal person.

He seemed very odd. Something wasn’t right about him.

I was very close to snapping infront of all those people.

I wanted to gouge his eyeballs out."

  17. WTF..She thinks she is a spath?

"When I was younger, a girlfriend of mine and I were curious. We were best friends and we played together every day. I can’t remember if I made the first move. We touched each other.

Sometimes we would take our clothes off and wrestle in bed.

We’d hold our bodies really tight against each other and my body would ache.

It was wonderful. It felt good, the feeling of her skin against mine.

    My underwear would be drenched.

We took a bath together at her house one day. Her mother thought it was just something little girls would do with their friends. Her father knew better.

As we were in the bath tub, her father walked in and locked the door. He watched both of us as we sat there and he came closer and sat down by the bath tub.

Everything after that is a blank.

I have issues with having sex with someone.

I only enjoy it when I’m being raped."

    explain this?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I cant speak for "most women" or "normal women" or whoever... I have bpd and strong fear/violence/force/rape associations with arousal. I do not believe, from seeing the look of horror in my NT friends eyes when I have discussed some of the bdsm activities I have taken part in, that NT women are turned on by rape as much as socios seem to think they are. I believe that is just a justification to invade the rights and boundaries of others. Rape a woman and then tell her she wanted it. Only gals like me actually want it, and even still, only on our own terms. No woman wants actual rape, no matter how much porn or your low empathy allows you to believe the contrary. The ones who do are far more damaged than even me. Severe bpd. Those are the ones you dont want to fuck with. They are the ones who are likely to stalk you afterwards, and maybe even castrate you in your sleep.

And as for vampires, the modern image is actually based on Lord Byron who was known to be quite the Cassanova.

caroline im happy ya came for another opinion i can reexamine ur case provide a solution make all ur problems disappear

fact 1: many sociopaths are very superficially charming except those who are not

fact 2: there are many women out there who only get turned on by the sociopaths they cant get interested about the average joes at all i think the reason for this is genetic or maybe they have the sexual fetish

solution: ya must only date and marry men who ya dont find attractive who dont turn ya on they might not be exciting but they will make good providers for ur kids ya can still have sex with the sociopaths if ya remember to be careful always use protection especially when the sociopath is different race from the husband because even the nerdy guys can get jealous possessive annoying and difficult cause ya a lot of problems

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lol. You contradict yourself. You say that most women don't want to be raped, but then right after you state that you do. Deep down women have an urge to be raped. The only reason why some complain is because some guys are too rough or they are trying hard to supress the urge so the guy has to use a lot more force.

    ReplyDelete
  25. @Mike Good point about the race in case I got pregnant and the child was a different color

    ReplyDelete
  26. Crass, if you had reading comprehension skills at all, you would be able to recognize that I am not "most women" or NT or whatever label you want. Just because there are those of us damaged enough to get off on it does not mean that most or all women do. And I also stated that even then, it is pseudo-rape, because rape, by definition goes against consent. If I consent to a rape scenario, in actuality, it is not rape.

The danger lies in those who believe the "truth" (which is not true, it is just a twisted rationalization) that all women desire to be raped. We dont. Some of us do enjoy being taken forcefully, but we wouldnt want just any random jackass to do it.

I know my socio friend likes to think he is pushing me beyond my limits, so I play along, struggle, pull away, make him work harder... but it is not rape.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dexter isnt anything except a literary and television character. If he were real, he would be a psychopath, except the tv showrunners dont get psychopaths (obviously) because they went and humanized him somewhat by giving him the capacity for loving familial bonds after the first two seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  34. how do you manipulate a narcissist?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Women dont really love sociopaths, it is just that sociopathic males (and narc ones) tend towards charm when it comes to ladies and have no qualms about saying whatever is necessary to appear to be what the woman wants (or thinks she wants). Healthy, well adjusted women may fall for it in the short term, but only women with pds (bpd or co-d) will stick around and enable their own abuse. The same can be said for female socios/narcs and their lovers.

Sometimes we get what we want, but find out later that it is not really what we need. The key is learning from it. That's the hard part for men and women. Its not about gender as much as personality.

    ReplyDelete
  36. please don't ignore me..how do you manipulate a narcissist?

    ReplyDelete
  37. You manipulate a narc, just like manipulating a socio (or anyone else for that matter) you make them feel like they have the control. Its actually easier to manipulate a manipulator because they tend to think everyone else is too dumb to do it and they dont even look for the signs.

    ReplyDelete
  38. dexter is half human, half socio. he has a redeemable side. so the audience can relate a little. he's not a full blown classic socio. if he was people would find him repulsive.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @anon 1:02

Since when are psychopaths always nice to everyone? Don't manipulate anyone unless they really need to? Don't lie even when they need to? He doesn't bully anyone, doesn't abuse anyone, only lies when he needs to, doesn't care about power. There's no way this dude's a psychopath.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You manipulate a narcissist by criticizing them. That's not gonna work with a sociopath because they don't give a flying fucking about critizism.

    ReplyDelete
  41. for example -- dexter hunts down the "scum" of our world. in reality it's the total opposite with socios. socios prey on the nicest and most vulnerable of society. who would want to watch that? only a bunch of low empathy folk.

also, dexter isn't nauseatingly arrogant like real life socios. dexter is basically living out every empaths fantasies.

    ReplyDelete
  42. bateman is most like a real life spath, because he targets the weak -- women, children, or old people. everyone is a target to bateman. he's "cowardly" and doesn't attack anyone who will put up a fight.

    ReplyDelete
  43. He doesnt care about power? What do you think murder is? It is the ultimate power. God power.

And smart socios know it is easy to manipulate others (impression management) by being nice to them. At least to their face. Hell, smart people in general know that. It doesnt take a socio.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I think Bateman is more narc with psychotic tendencies. Psychopaths arent psychotic. Psychopaths dont need to be told by the atm to feed it a cat.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @Anon 1:21

What about the rest of my arguments?

    ReplyDelete
  46. the anti social pd's don't care that much about appearances, they lack that kind of narcissism that a psychopath has. a psychopath is well liked by people that know them on surface levels. the superficial charm is called superficial, because it's put on and fake. it masks the true deceitful and callous person beneath.

    ReplyDelete
  47. @About the superficial charm---- -Is it a TOTAL act?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Superficial charm is a load of crap. Everyone tries to be nice because that's the way people have to behave, even though they're all bad on the inside. It doesn't matter if your kidness is fake. Kindness is kindness.

    ReplyDelete
  49. i don't think you can class him as psychotic, because it wasn't a frequent even. he was in the midst of his many murders when that event took place. i wouldn't say that psychopaths are incapable of having a nervous breakdown and losing touch with reality.

    ReplyDelete
  50. yes it's a total act. it doesn't come from genuine kindness. it's like how pedophiles groom children to further abuse them. it's goal orientated.

  51. "Superficial charm is a tactic used by sociopaths to get their way. By looking good and acting nice on the surface, they hide their true personalities, which are often very selfish and uncaring, possibly even sadistic. The "charm" is entirely insincere."

  52. Everyone's out for themselves. Everyone's self-interested. We all are, we're born that way. The rest of us are born with consciences and remorse. And most of empaths can't admit it to themselves because they've been taught their whole lives that being selfish was a bad thing.

an example would be a 40 year old sociopath that tries to lure a 13 year old onto her web cam. the man would ask for her age, when she tells him she is 13. he replies back that he is 15. he then finds and image of an attractive young boy and uses it as his picture. then he will basically fabricate a whole new character to impress her and attain his goal.

  61. That's hardly an ancient throwback to sociopathy

    I disagree.

I am of the opinion that most myths, biblical stories, monsters and creatures were born from the need to anthropomorphize and allegorize various aspects of nature, humanity, and the shades of grey inherent in life. Vampires represent, and I believe always represented, the dark side of human nature, including sociopaths. I think in the past there's wasn't really much of a difference between reality and allegory; they were one and the same for the most part, which is something we have lost in modern times (hence, I think, why people take the bible too literally). Nowadays we have psychology instead, which is perhaps just a different form of the same thing. The same thing told in a new language.

In fact, hard science can be seen as a form of allegory, but we believe in it as fact (as in the past vampires were once 'fact'), so in terms of science we really see no difference between what all the numbers represent and reality. The numbers are 'fact', right?

Perhaps in the future, science as we see it now will be seen as a form of myth, the same way vampires are now, once another language to explain and describe the world is invented. But not right now, because science is for the most part, or at least becoming, the predominate 'language' or 'religion', if you will.

  69. Medusa, it is true tho, that vampires as we think of them didnt exist prior to gothic romances. Prior to that, they existed as reanimated corpses with blood lust. They were closer to zombies than to Dracula.

Also, not all of us bpd gals dont know the difference between submission and surrender. I've known both in my time. I tend to only surrender under certain conditions. It is quite amazing to completely let go, but let's face it, most of these schmucks do not deserve nor can be trusted with surrender. Submission, yes, because there is not as much to lose. Submission still involves ego, it's just sublimated. Surrender is total ego loss and complete vulnerability. At least in my lexicon. Tell me how you see it?

    ReplyDelete
  70. No, it's not. If you're going to make claims that have no basis in reality (that you can muster up) it's like asking you to prove any other fact.

It's not like I'm asking you to learn an ancient language and hop in a time traveling machine. Find me an ancient vampire story (BCE, preferably, you get bonus points if it's Sumerian) with a classical sociopathic vampire in it.

If you can't, it remains conjecture at best.

  75. Medusa, it is true tho, that vampires as we think of them didnt exist prior to gothic romances.

Key phrase being "as we think of them". Which basically only means the word we currently use to describe the concept. And the cape and garlic and bats and that shit.

The word 'vampire' (or wampyr, or whatever spelling or language you choose) didn't exist before the 18th century. But that doesn't mean the concept didn't exist before then.

I'm checking wiki now which also makes the point I am making:

The notion of vampirism has existed for millennia; cultures such as the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, Ancient Greeks, and Romans had tales of demons and spirits which are considered precursors to modern vampires. However, despite the occurrence of vampire-like creatures in these ancient civilizations, the folklore for the entity we know today as the vampire originates almost exclusively from early 18th-century southeastern Europe, when verbal traditions of many ethnic groups of the region were recorded and published. In most cases, vampires are revenants of evil beings, suicide victims, or witches, but they can also be created by a malevolent spirit possessing a corpse or by being bitten by a vampire. Belief in such legends became so pervasive that in some areas it caused mass hysteria and even public executions of people believed to be vampires.

Just because it has a different name and form, doesn't mean the concepts differ very much.

  76. Hey meddy, have we recently established that you are now, a schizoid? Interesting. One of my best friends (I love that girl) i would consider, a little on the schizoid side. ALthough being very pretty and highly intelligent, (first degree at uni, in a good profession now), she took years to be interested in a guy. Was single that whole time. ALthough she is now in a stable relationship, i still think she's kinda different like that. No what I mean? Maybe you are quite similar. Who knows. I love her cos she's so stable in my life, and tolerates my unpredictability, and i've never had a single argument with her throughout our seven year friendship. She's awesome, but very very different to me. Regardless of that, we get on so well.

  77. If im not mistaken Medusa, you were implying that bpd women enjoy being raped.

    You made that assumption yourself.

I wasn't talking specifically about rape, but how some people confuse submission and surrender and think that something rape-like is what they need. Let's say the 'rape' desire is on a spectrum. From normal D/s relationships, on to BDSM relationships, and rape at the very extreme.

    Also, let me clarify:

I said "Fucked up mental BPD women" not "BPD women". By that I meant the BPDers who are extra fucked up. I was referring to the sorts Sarah was talking about earlier:

No woman wants actual rape, no matter how much porn or your low empathy allows you to believe the contrary. The ones who do are far more damaged than even me.

^ Those girls in bold is what I meant.

Sometimes I assume people know what I mean more than they actually do, and I tend to talk bluntly, so I will try to be clearer.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yes it does. They differ quite a lot. I know, as a vampire whore my entire life, I did a number of research papers. The ancient vampires were basically bloodthirsty corpses. No cognition, no superficial charm, not a single human characteristic other than being a walking dead meat sack hungering for blood or flesh, depending on the culture. They were corpses that housed demons that were more or less retarded. They resembled obsessive compulsives in their single minded quest for sustenance more than the modern vampire which is more sociopathic. Hence the use of the term "precurser".

    ReplyDelete
  79. Vampire or demon-like creatures are certainly ancient. But classical charming sociopaths? None that I know of.

    Good luck.

  81. notme, I don't know if I'm necessarily SPD, but yes I am very schizoid. Perhaps your friend and myself are alike indeed.

Single most of my adult life and I laugh at people who think I should feel bad because of that, because I don't. I have never had much interest in dating or not being single.

'True love' or whatever the fuck would be really nice and stuff, and I do long for it, sometimes immensely, but for me it's not worth the effort most people are willing to put into it. Dating and all that ritualistic bullshit. I can't bring myself to do it except rarely.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I do know the sorts Medusa was talking about... the way past repair bpd gals. I use to use fetlife before I divorced myself from that "lifestyle". There are gals literally begging to be kidnapped and held indefinitely to be raped by whoever their owner wants. Many involve interracial "breeding". White girls to be kept as breeding chattel for black men.

I thank all of the immensely fucked up women of fetlife for getting me (mostly) out of that mindset. Sometimes it takes looking at others as grotesque distortions of ourselves to wake us up.

    ReplyDelete
  83. But classical charming sociopaths?

    That's just the Hollywood version.

Even Bram Stoker's Dracula wasn't so charming, Hollywood and Bela Lugosi did that.

Even the Bela Lugosi version wasn't so charming, unless you mean the original version of 'charm' which was basically like an actual spell you put on someone. Not a personality trait. But it was the first time they dressed up a vampire all nice, made him handsome, and combed his hair. It's Hollywood after all. Maybe that is what you are calling 'charm'.

Same way they had to nice-up what a sociopath is in order to create Dexter. It's for the audience. Who wants to be charmed. It's kind of hard to do that with an ugly drooling monster looking thing.

I mean, fuck, have you even watched Nosferatu? I'd hardly call that guy charming, and it predates the original Dracula movie. But it was a more historically accurate version.

In conclusion, the whole 'charming vampire' thing is a Hollywood invention, and you are falling for it. Might as well have a 'code' like Dexter does to be a real sociopath, right?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Well Medusa, unless you feel your life sucks because of your schizoid traits (cant work, cant sleep, whatever) its not really a pd. Granted, you do mention a desire for closeness, but unless it causes you undue pain, its not really a disorder. The whole disorder thing is quite subjective anyway. Like its funny putting narcs and socios and even schizoids in with the others, because usually it isnt the individual suffering from their condition. It is usually their loved ones who suffer. The new DSM system is getting closer, but I still think they've got it all wrong. And apparently schizoids wont exist as a seperate pd. Maybe because schizoid is actually (except for the low empathy) closer to what a healthy functioning independently minded human is supposed to be. I think the narcissistic psychiatric community tends to have its head up its own ass.

    ReplyDelete
  85. That's where you are wrong, Medusa... the modern vampire is based on Lord Byron. Google Byron and Polidori and The Vampire. That is where our current concepts have derived. It was Polidori's butthurt way of trying to get a dig in on Byron, who was known as a major narcissist and (metaphorical) lady killer.

No different than anyone else, I suppose. Even sociopaths.

unless you feel your life sucks because of your schizoid traits (cant work, cant sleep, whatever) its not really a pd.

If I'm not mistaken, this is partially why NPD and SPD won't be in the next DSM. Because those folks don't see much of a problem with who they are (until they have a break, but it's the break itself that is the issue for them (however related to the PD it is), but not the PD itself). The difference with ASPD, whilst they see no problem with who they are, is that it's inevitable that those affected make other people's lives suck (hence the name, it's a 'pathology' that directly negatively effects 'society').

  89. @sarah

the serial killer ted bundy also had an obsession with objects and status, which rivaled that of batemans. bundy was the guy that brought psychopaths to the mainstream. the poster boy of psychopathy, if you will. you could term him the real life patrick bateman. through the book (american psycho) and movie bateman makes references to bundy and other mass killers. i don't think an obsession with surfaces is exclusive to narcissists.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Sarah, I'm talking about how 99% of people view vampires nowadays. It's directly from Bela Lugosi. Everyone has seen Dracula, and that's what everyone's idea is based on.

Lord Byron, perhaps, is inbetween the old Transylvania superstitions and the modern Dracula. The evolution of a mythical image doesn't happen overnight.

It's like a crockpot. Byron, perhaps, was one of the spices that made the ugly brown stew taste better. Too bad the spice was MSG. Tastes good, but poison.

  99. The narcissist doesn't believe in equality, or at least not when it affects him. Equality would seem demeaning to the narcissist if it applied to him.

If (as often happens in private) he shouts and swears or intimidates his immediate family, or if his face turns beetroot - walk away 20 feet! Twenty feet is the range of his narcissistic rage. But later he might try to sneak up on you.

He's an expert at detraction and calumny. He can gossip with an innocent composure. He can assassinate a person's reputation and yet make the assassination seem like decent conversation.

He will often project, criticising you for the very things that he himself is guilty of. He might gallingly tell you that you have no sympathy, or that you are a control freak, or that you were trying to be the centre of attention when the visitors were in. He might even tell you that you are behaving hysterically when you are not even angry. Listen carefully to what he accuses you of because it might well tell you what he is doing, thinking or planning.

He craves your sympathy, its a kind of attention. He's sure to tell you how unfortunate he is and how bad the people in his life are. He's sure to paint a dark picture of others. He'll probably paint a bad picture of you (unless he's dependent on you in some way).

Visitors are as bemused when they see the children being exceptionally noisy despite them seemingly having two quiet, calm parents. Don't be fooled. Children pick up many of their traits from watching their parents. If parents are calm when visitors are in, just don't assume that they are calm when there are no visitors. Perhaps if you try to be a fly-on-the-wall the narcissist might momentarily forget that you are there and you will catch him off-guard, and then you will see how the narcissist relates to his children in private.

People who live with a narcissist get fed up listening to the narcissist endlessly criticising his friends. These are often friends who appear to adore the narcissist. Those friends have no idea what he says about them. The narcissist's friends, however, will often happily listen to the narcissist defaming the characters of others, so in some respects they deserve the criticisms which the narcissist gives them behind their backs.

    ReplyDelete
  100. TNP, honestly now, stop acting like you're retarded. You know I made a comment to you. For fucks sake.

    ReplyDelete
  101. The narcissist seems to criticise others endlessly, whether in public or in private. In public, however, the narcissist can make his/her criticisms look like genuine concern. The narcissist's criticisms often involve exaggerating the person's faults, sometimes to the point of lying. People who do not know the narcissist well are likely to develop negative emotions towards the people whom the narcissist strongly criticises. People within the family are more likely to wise-up to the narcissist's exaggerations and half-truths. People within the family often have to listen to the narcissist criticising colleagues and relatives but are unable to let those colleagues and relatives know the extent to which the narcissist is trying to denigrate them.

On the other hand the narcissist cannot bear to be criticised by others and is hypersensitive to criticism. If people outside the family criticise the narcissist the narcissist is likely to take revenge by speaking ill of the person later. With immediate family the narcissist is more likely to respond to criticism by overtly aggressive behaviour.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Narcissists are not usually regarded as being physically violent but there appears to be a significant minority of narcissists who are. For this reason a person who might be vulnerable to violence from a narcissist might be advised to spot the danger signs. A typical example of a vulnerable person might be a woman who is married to a narcissistic man. Danger signs that might be a forewarning of physical violence could be the following:

    * Possessive or controlling behaviour
    * Verbal abuse
    * Constant criticism
    * Undue control of family finances
    * Isolation from family and friends

    ReplyDelete
  103. * How many narcissists does it take to change a light bulb?

    ReplyDelete
  104. * What's a sure-fire way of getting daily verbal abuse?

Be the child of a narcissist.

    * What is a narcissist's idea of being abused?

Occasionally having to go along with someone else's preferences.

    * What do you call a narcissist who is never vengeful?

    Utterly impossible!

    * What's a narcissist's idea of hard work?

Arranging for lots of people to do all the chores (organising people can be hard work, can't it?).

    * What's a narcissist's idea of generosity?

Giving away things which the narcissist considers to be rubbish.

    ReplyDelete
  107. narcs? don't you mean narc, as in one? most families have one narc and a bunch of minions that act like the narc and attack anyone that disagrees with the narcissist, but the minions are not as skilled as the narc. they create a cult. it's like a soft kid starts liking football to impress his dad, but his dad sees him as even weaker now, because he is trying so hard to be accepted by the narc dad.

  108. TNP and Sarah are right, Medusa. Vampires were just corpses before Lord Byron (it was his assistant that wrote 'The Vampyre', but he based it on Byron). Like the Arabian Ghouls, the Chinese Jiangshi, the Malaysian Mananangaal and the Japanese Jikininki; all just corpses. The 'Byron vampire' was the one that popularized the aristocratic vampire. And Dracula may not have been charming, he could hypnotize people. And that's like, a billion times more effective.

And while you're technically right in saying MSG is poisonous (because literally everything is), salt (the regular NaCl kind) is five times more poisonous. MSG is actually the fifth taste (alongside sweet, bitter, sour and salt); umami.

    ReplyDelete
  122. No. Psychopaths only blame if they feel like admitting they did something "wrong" to begin with. Even then, they tend more toward blaming other people. Like "it was his fault he died. Anyone could tell I was having a bad day. He shouldnt have fucked with me." Or "Ive never seen a bigger idiot. That stupid bitch ran into my knife thirty times".

I myself do not use my pd as a crutch for bad behavior. I have seen people use it that way. Not just pds either. Bipolar, depression, anxiety, addiction... anything can be a crutch or excuse. However, understanding where impulses come from and why one does what they do is self awareness and is an important step. Using knowledge of dysfunction as a crutch to allow bad behvior to continue without desire to change... that's not psychopathic as much as it is just laziness.

I believe this, but I would take it a step further. There is no dysfunction unless you believe it is one. People should strive to understand how they function not dwell on how they disfunction.

It's easy to find disabilities. It's easy to find excuses. It's easy to whine and cry about the situations you are in right now, and blame external things or individuals for your current predicament.

If you want to see an example take a look at Lovefraud.com . Here's a site where hundreds of 'victims' gather around and relive the same tragic moments in their lives over and over again. They spend their days and nights firing darts at the dart board with a picture of their ex boyfriend's face pasted on it. Does that really help? I don't believe it does at all.

I think instead people should take a honest look at themselves and examine what strengths they have not what disorders they have.

  168. You can change anything if you want to bad enough. That's why we get away with so many lies. We want the lie more than you want the truth.

People keep talking about gas lighting. That is all there really is to it. It's not so much the act of hiding things, changing things or denying their existance. It's the will you must have to believe your own bollocks enough that the other person knows you believe it not only whole heartedly, but passionately. There is nothing more powerful than self doubt when it comes to manipulation like this. When someone already doubts themselves it's pretty easy to get them to trust you over themself.

  170. Ukan, It is certainly true that dwelling on negatives just keeps one mired in negativity. All these "disorders" are is a collection of patterns and coping mechanisms. I am not borderline. I have this bpd label but it isnt who I am as an individual. It doesnt define me. It is a part of me.

It is interesting talking with others who have it, seeing where we overlap and where we differ. Each person is unique, be they aspie, apd, bpd or schizophrenic or even the NTs (I still am not sure I believe there is such thing as an NT - most folks seem like they have some sort of dysfunction - I sometimes think it is most dysfunctional to be "well adjusted" because adjusting to this world seems like a terrible idea). The labels are good for pattern recognition. When someone else has the same label you can actually discuss what works and provide support. Obviously the npd & apd support groups are more like cock measuring contests, but the rest of us can glean hope from others who maybe dealing better or even manage to see the positives.

A positive of bpd for me is that I am a talented actress. I have no stage freight. I can easily call upon the range of human emotions and it is believable. I also had so much casual sex and was a stripper when I was a wee lass, so I got over my body image issues many moons ago and dont buy into corporate concepts of beauty and dont spend all my money buying the crap that npd gals buy lol. I can also take my rage out on the elliptical and the swimming pool.

As far as fibromyalgia, yoga and tai chi are supposed to be good therapy. Any movement, really. I think it is a clinical name for "gtf off the couch syndrome". Ive never known anyone who had good regular aerobic sex fall victim to it.

And anon, why do you want to ask bpd folks about fibromyalgia?

In some ways, I agree with Monica that having your very own socio can be good therapy. You just cant listen to their words. You learn about your chinks in your own armor by where they hurt you. I really do feel like learning from his callousness has also helped me learn not to take things so personally. A low level socio can be a great teacher for a beeper. It almost feels more symbiotic than parasitic. He learns how to mimic deeper emotions better and I learn how to make mine more shallow. I learn how to let go of attachment more and he gets a friend who knows he is a db and still sticks around. And we both get amazing sex. Problem for him is at this point he needs me more than I need him and soon I wont need him at all. Oh well, us bitches are interchangeable to you guys anyway, so its not like its a real problem. Plenty of gals out there who will be more gullible and less work. But less fun. I know he will miss that. I will too. Say what you want about beepers and socios, but there's never a dull moment. We bring the fun in.

That's why rape is a fraud. There is no rape. People have been raping since the dawn of Man. There are many women who orgasm during rape.

  178. "this is a trap for you though, unless you know your bollocks is bollocks!"

I'm in a trap. I believed my own bullocks. lol. I have to believe I'll find my way out of it too, and not have to erase my footprints. I'm a stubborn bitch, but I can still learn. I know when I've fucked up enough to fuck myself. I fucked myself by coming here the way I did. But it's no catch 22. There's always a way out of a trap. I have to believe that. It may take some time to undo what I've done... but that's where the fun comes in. "No one put's Baby in the corner," lol, right?
Fuck it. I'm going to do what I came here to do! Hope every one enjoyed their religious holiday. See you all sometime in the new year to come...

  181. If you folk have not been keeping up, and I'm sure not many have, I have been mentoring properly on how to do knife "jobs" and fire "Jobs". I have two mentors, technically, and they both have two that serve them who are also aiding me in this. There are many to learn from, but already I feel this isn't worth shit.

The world I have entered and been a part of before was an underworld of BDSM. I have been in training to become a dominatrix, and wanted to turn this into a source of income. I figured beating the shit out of people fucked up enough to pay me for it would sate me completely, but it is only doing the opposite. My sadism has become worse, and I find myself easily losing control and becoming a slave to my own inclinations to mangle, torture, and even destroy. I need something to calm this hunger to bring pain, and I haven't found an outlet yet.

So I want to ask those who have an insatiable taste for sadism, how can I calm this. I have a feeling there isn't much of a way other than to bring this aggressive sadistic energy elsewhere, but where? In every sport and hobby I have become part of the urge to bring it past the part of "play" is too strong. When I spoke of fucking up in the past it was because I brought it past "play". Medusa, it was more of a "job", only I wasn't hired by anyone.

I'm positive as with most of my issues, I will come to a solution that will keep me balanced for the most part, but as of now my mind isn't in the correct state to even think proactively. I am meeting with my mentors this coming Wednesday to lay it all out on the table. UKan, Misanthrope, or even Postmodern, possibly Daniel, any suggestions would be grand.

Thank you for your time. Piles signing out, will check tomorrow.

  182. The best outlet for sadism is tormenting people who don't deserve it.

  183. I don't think you want to mix your personal appetite with your work. -A person who comes to you for a beating already thinks they deserve it. You are fulfilling their need, and you're the whore. You need a private arrangement.

I was somewhat more hopeful he'd really leave this time, but I'm not really surprised he came back. I was trying to get him to say it was really him, which would also mean he would admit to being pathetic. Usually he's obsessed with proving he's 'real' but maybe he saw through my clever, clever ruse.

  187. I met this woman who said she has add she couldn't and wouldn't stop talking had a new topic to discuss every 2 min then proceeded talking about her needing stimulation and that was why she flits around from activity to activity and that is why she wouldn't shut up then she talked about god n shit and I tuned out then she said did I know there are 18 types of add she fascinated me but her monologue made me tired Is she an emotional vampire cause she was sucking the air out of the room and she FORCED me to listen to her with her cherubic smile?

  188. Piles, you should not be a Domme if you cannot control yourself. When people use the services of a pro-Domme, they expect professionalism. That means someone who is basically a service top dressed up as a Domme. They also expect that the person doing it is relatively mentally stable, or they would not entrust their flesh to you. You also run the risk of being assaulted or even sued or arrested if you piss off the wrong client.

If you really think you need to do this pro, then get a house slave to keep around privately to take your sadism out on.
