What is a sociopath's weakness?

I think the young sociopath's biggest weakness is trusting in the power of logic and reasoning. In this post I talked about how high functioning sociopaths (more than empaths) realize that it is not the content so much as the context of a message or belief that is important. It hardly matters if you are speaking the most precious pieces of wisdom ever uttered, some people will just not care or not listen or will misinterpret what you say. People who realize the importance of context over content can go on to be great leaders. People who do not realize this go on to be great scapegoats -- often much later in history to be labeled martyrs.

Punishment comes to two types of people: those who deserve to be punished, and those who are punished to send a message to everyone else that the ruling party is powerful and should not be toyed with. The first can lead to the second as long as the punishment is well-publicized. The second sometimes coincides with the first, but not always. Sometimes people get stuck on the wrong/losing side of an issue by chance and they end up being made-an-example-of through no fault of their own. Examples could be well-meaning Nazis in pre-World War II Germany, American Confederates in the Civil War, etc. These type of people end up getting castigated not because what they did was "wrong," but as a signal to others that the winning party is strong and will not tolerate disobedience. Everyone should be worried about both scenarios happening to them, but the "innocent" should be especially worried about the latter.

I have always been something of a hothead -- always trying to overthrow little dictators as I encounter them. I loathe incompetence and obsess over efficiency, so I'd typically rather just oust those who offend my tender sensitivities than put up with them to any degree. Of course one need supporters to stage coupes. This is where I've sometimes succeeded, sometimes failed. Sometimes my charisma has been enough to gain a critical mass of followers, or in some cases the popularity of the leader was so low that his enemies quickly became my friends. When the incompetence has been less obvious, however, or the leader was popular, I've consistently failed and have even been vilified for my troubles.

Because of my love of efficiency, I've always wanted to be as direct as possible. I'd think that surely the people would understand if I just present the arguments and let them judge for themselves. But people are stupid and blind and doubt anything that contradicts what they "know" to be true (actually, conveniently, one of the reasons why sociopaths can remain undetected so well). It took me a long time to learn that indirect attacks often were much more effective than direct attacks. To this day, I am still more frightened by an angry mob than anything else. As Galileo learned, there are many victims of the inconvenient truths they espoused. And to the mob -- question the origin of your beliefs, lest you be a puppet to an unknown puppeteer.

  3. Who the hell cares? Really! A concern about the slaughter of the English language? Please... do you really think the author cares about your opinion or desires to change his writing style nonetheless?

Amazes me the mass of morons on this planet, tis a pandemic. Miss the point completely? Not intelligent enough to discern a point at all and pokes at the use of grammar. Perhaps I use too much punctuation... Hmmm... Does that annoy you? Good!!

The weakness of a sociopath. Only one true weakness. Self-preservation. They are human creatures, not super humans by any stretch of the imagination.

Reading this because you want one out of your life? Go find yourself a really pissed off angry mob and cut through the bullshit of trying to analyze them. They don't play by the rules, why should you?

  4. Although this may seem partially irrelevant, I would like to draw attention to the fact this site almost glamorizes psychopaths, or at least doesn't mention the downsides of being a psychopathic individual.
This site is full of 'We don't feel empathy' and 'we do not care if we ruin your life' 'we take advantage of you'; I realize this is all very well, this is all basically true, yet what about the other things? Why not tell the empath readers what it really is like? It would be interesting to see how they react when they find out the whole story about their beloved psychopaths.
Do not get me wrong, this is not a request or anything, I just felt I should shed some light on the issue, as no-one else seems to have been bothered.
I personally would find it hilarious if you got someone to come and share there their experiences with psychopathy.
"A lot of people think I'm a monster just because I torture animals." A few people I know have come to hate and fear me, as they have found out about my love of slowly killing and mutilating animal''s corpses. In fact earlier today I was having a conversation with some empaths, I had my guard down, I honestly wasn't suspecting a thing, and because of this I accidentally let slip about my profound love of animal slaughter. It didn't end as well as I had hoped.
I don't think you'd gain any fans by writing about the... bladder control problems that are apparently common among psychopaths. I myself suffer from this, and I think a few psychopath-obsessed individuals would suddenly become less keen if they were aware of this.
"We have bad bladder control too, I'm worst at night, and many a-time I have been in the dreadful situation of having to hide the fact I have wet my bed. reason one you don't want to be a psycho. Moving on..." That would not go down all to well with the avid empath readers.
Perhaps that is not the best idea, then.

This site actually features countless posts that address the less appealing aspects of sociopathy. There are posts on blood lust, many posts from the perspective of victims of sociopaths, etc.

The cool thing about this site is that it is primarily from the perspective of a sociopath. If you've ever been the victim of a one, it can provide invaluable insight on how best to interact with them.

I find this site far more helpful in terms of helping family, friends, or victims of sociopaths than any other site, such as LoveFraud - which seem to demonize the sociopath, and provide continued value for the victim to identify with being a victim.

I've been reading this blog for almost three years now. Is it paradoxical that I have gleaned more vital information from this site that has empowered me? I now know exactly how to deal with my ex in a way that validates his super ego, provides no challenge to him, while giving him the illusion that I am compliant to his wishes & that he is in control. Since utilizing the tactics that I've learned here, he has essentially left me and my daughter alone.

LoveFraud would have advised me to cease contact with him completely and go into hiding. I see now, that this would have only triggered his need to be in control & he would have challenged that. Especially given that he was ordered to pay child support.

We all have different reasons for coming to this site. And sometimes, I find that as I let my guard slip (which is easy to do with a sociopath), I get a nice reminder after visiting this site and recharge, reframe my mindset.

  5. The anonymous poster above raises a very good point. My experience with psychopathy has been anything but pleasant. Recently on a long road trip I had a "bladder issue" while taking a nap. We were still almost an hour out so you can imagine (or maybe you can't) what that was like. In a way I'm happy you focus more on the upsides of the disorder as it reminds me that not having a conscience can be advantageous. Still, I would be interested to hear some of your more negative experiences as well.

    1. Read through the archives. You'll find plenty of posts. I remember one post from a while back that speaks of how sociopaths (or at least M.E.) perceives emotions. "Emotional hallucinations" is what he calls them.

He also speaks of the difficulty in maintain the mask all the time, and how draining it can be, how he needs down time. He speaks of being lonely at times, and what it feels like to love or feel rejected as a sociopath. When I read these posts, the glamour of sociopathy quickly fades. While at times, I envy the sociopath's cool emotional detachment & seemingly logical mind, I end up valuing my own ability to feel things quite deeply. It make my life vibrant, passionate, and colorful.

But the true trick here is control over emotions. To dip in when and if you want to, swim deep and enjoy where the emotional current takes you. But to be able to step out of the pool at any given time.

But seriously...read the archives. You'll find plenty of post addressing the negative experiences as a sociopath.

  7. What is so lovable about sociopaths is that they do not care about differences. If they see something in you, they'll hang on to you and be your friend. No matter how fat you are, no matter how much you look like an alien, no matter the clothes you wear. Empaths are sheeps and will mock you for being different and not a follower like them.

  11. Good Morning M.E.!

I copied this quote from today's post:
"Punishment comes to two types of people: those who deserve to be punished, and those who are punished to send a message to everyone else that the ruling party is powerful and should not be toyed with"

This reminds me of story of Moses and the Plagues of Egypt.

    1. Plague of blood: Ex. 7:14–25
This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood. The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink and thus the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.

    2. Plague of frogs: Ex. 7:25–8:11
This is what the great LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will plague your whole country with frogs. The Nile will teem with frogs. They will come up into your palace and your bedroom and onto your bed, into the houses of your officials and on your people, and into your ovens and kneading troughs. The frogs will go up on you and your people and all your officials.

    3. Plague of lice or gnats: Ex. 8:12–15
Then the LORD said […] "Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt." […] When Aaron stretched out his hand with the staff and struck the dust of the ground, gnats came upon men and animals. All the dust throughout the land of Egypt became lice.

    4. Plague of flies or wild animals: Ex. 8:20–32
This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you do not let my people go, I will send swarms of flies upon you and your officials, on your people and into your houses. The houses of the Egyptians will be full of flies, and even the ground where they are.

    5. Plague of pestilence: Ex. 9:1–7
This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so that they may worship me." If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back, the hand of the LORD will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field—on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats.

    To Be Continued... :)

    1. 6. Plague of boils: Ex. 9:8–12
The sixth plague of Egypt was shkhin. The Shkhin was a kind of skin disease, usually translated as "boils". God commanded Moses and Aaron to each take two handfuls of soot from a furnace, which Moses scattered skyward in Pharaoh's presence. The soot induced festering Shkhin eruptions on Egyptian men and livestock. The Egyptian sorcerers were afflicted along with everyone else, and were unable to heal themselves, much less the rest of Egypt.

      7. Plague of hail: Ex. 9:13–35
This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me, or this time I will send the full force of my plagues against you and against your officials and your people, so you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth. For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with a plague that would have wiped you off the earth. But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. You still set yourself against my people and will not let them go. Therefore, at this time tomorrow I will send the worst hailstorm that has ever fallen on Egypt, from the day it was founded till now. Give an order now to bring your livestock and everything you have in the field to a place of shelter, because the hail will fall on every man and animal that has not been brought in and is still out in the field, and they will die. […] The LORD sent thunder and hail, and lightning flashed down to the ground. So the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt; hail fell and lightning flashed back and forth. It was the worst storm in all the land of Egypt since it had become a nation.

      8. Plague of locusts: Ex. 10:1–20
This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me. If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow. They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left after the hail, including every tree that is growing in your fields. They will fill your houses and those of all your officials and all the Egyptians—something neither your fathers nor your forefathers have ever seen from the day they settled in this land till now.

      9. Plague of darkness: Ex. 10:21–29
Then the Lord said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the sky so that darkness will spread over Egypt—darkness that can be felt." So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and total darkness covered all Egypt for three days. No one could see anyone else or leave his place for three days.

      10. Death of the firstborn: Ex. 11:1–12:36
This is what the Lord says: 'About midnight I will go throughout Egypt. Every firstborn in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn of the slave girl, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well. There will be loud wailing throughout Egypt—worse than there has ever been or ever will be again.

I've always feel sad when I read about the last plague.:(
But I'm an empathic person. I'm sure it bothers most Christians at first, but we are not to question the word of God. He shows his greatness in many ways, but in the story of the Plagues, he exercises his power in the suffering of even the "innocent", and the slaves were able to win their freedom!

Thanks for sharing this post M.E.!

God does not punish in the Age of Grace. Man gets himself in to all sorts of problems, but God does not do it.

    1. Yes, well I was using The Old Testament to state my case, obviously. I realize the New Testament shows God's grace, but that doesn't change what happened in The Old Testament, does it.

The God of The Old Testament and the God of the New Testament, are they not the same God? They are. My point still stands the way it is, and as it comes from the Bible, it is indisputable. With all due respect, sister. :)

    4. Are you saying that only The New Testament is relevant? There is no right and wrong part to the Bible. God is the one who makes all the rules by which we are to live. He is the one who sets the ultimate example for us, so he can't be wrong in either book.

My post still stands because it was an example I was giving in answer to the quote I took from M.e.'s post today:

"Punishment comes to two types of people: those who deserve to be punished, and those who are punished to send a message to everyone else that the ruling party is powerful and should not be toyed with"

I chose the story of The Plagues as an example of these two types of punishment as God used them.
I'm sure M.E. understands why I used that example, even if you don't. But thank you for your constructive criticism.

    8. I don't understand why you're arguing with me. That's what I don't understand. In M.E.'s post it was stated that there are two kinds of punishment to show power. I agreed with M.E.'s post by talking about how God used these two types of punishments to show his power. When he punished the Egyptians, he used both types of punishment by causing not only the suffering of those who deserved it, but he also punished the "innocent" in order to send a message.

There is nothing about my point to argue.

      Delete
    9. OK, if that is what you meant, that is fine. I thought you were coming on here, judging people. Honestly, I have a bad feeling about you, but all will be revealed in time.

His was being proved wrong on so many levels and pulling his vail off. At first being intrigued with his colorful larger than life personality and feeling lovingly drawn in and wanting to be taken care of became the perfect pray for him. I considered him smart and myself less but content with that. The complete life of manipulation for years to believe I needed him and I was a nothing to eventually having enough of the bs to become strong and know and find the person I was once before, smart independant person. I was forced into this by his own hand too, lol. He ran the business and preach I couldnt do it and left me high and dry thinking to his bennifit this would work and Id beg him back and rely on him more, instead my insticts kicked in and I beat him at his own business with doubling profits and gains and not needing him and building up for debit to tens of thousands. He can back and I was lured back in by the charm but in now time at all the control and anger and manipulation came back. I learned something and that was everytime I called him out on something that he was "wrong" or I was better at or proved it killed him, but I hit a nerve and my selfesteem grew back. There could not be anymore carots put in front of this mule (me) to tempt me anymore to stay home or keep quite or pity him or buy me. After one too many tantrums and knowing I didnt need his %^&* anymore and I would be better off broke or lonely forever than with this nut. As a Christain I chose to be separated and celibet for the rest of my life since I should'nt divorce, but he will fornicate or die soon which is the only biblical way out for me. NOTE to haters I know I spell badly, but you get the point of this.

    1. Read about reprobate minds in the bible, this should help you understand the empty shell your are (or were) dealing with (actually not quite empty, but filled with all wickedness) Keep distance and pray. You will be astonished.

  20. In Sandra Leske's case her weakness is her stupidity. Stupid sociopaths are easy to deal with once you are aware of the condition. It's the smart ones you have to be careful with.

  22. A sociopaths biggest weakness is over confidence. The inability to empathise means and flights of Narcissism means they are prone to misreading people. None sociopath are not just empathic and are just as capable of being ruthless. lying and being callous as a sociopath. Ordinary people switch empathy on and off all the time. This is how they can eat meat, but cry over a puppy, go to war, undercut eacihother n a deal, have affairs and divorce long term spouses. Empathy just means they might feel guilty about it, but not always.. Sociopaths can't switch empathy on and off.
