Good idea?

From an article about using brain scans to detect sociopaths:
But what could be even more interesting is what the future holds. If we can detect such abnormalities in childhood or adolescence, perhaps we could prevent the individual from actually “turning into” a psychopath through a specific treatment program. Instead of locking people up after the fact, we could turn a societal eye toward prevention and help people long before they become a burden on the criminal justice system.

  2. That's silly Aspie. If it's proven to be physiological, then it's no longer treatable through counseling, etc, since there's no known treatment for psychopathy. Until one is devised, this is a sure-fire way to say LOCK IM UP WITHOUT PAROLE!

  3. yeah while the other guy who killed someone in a moment of rage or whatever who doesn't have this brain chemistry/use pattern/condition gets the electric chair

  4. I think no matter what you have to judge the action regardless of the condition. It's pretty plainly known that if you do something, there may be consequences.

  5. I agree with aspie, I psychopath should be judged on their actions. While they may not be bound by a conscience they certainly have the capacity to know what is and isn't acceptable according to the law.

  6. This is all assuming people either have adequate healthcare or can afford these scans.

Sociopaths coming from lower income households or living off of welfare are no more of a burden to the criminal justice system than any other murderer/rapist/drug dealer who can't afford medical expenses.

  7. Yeah they are. Rehabilitation is a waste of time and money for psychopaths. Parole would just be putting the public at risk, and trials when the psychopath offends again will cost. Better to keep unsuccessful psychopaths where they belong: locked up. Of course, give them a chance to prove that they're not unsuccessful (criminal) psychopaths before doing so.

Are you proposing life sentences for anyone who is a psychopath regardless of what type of crime they've committed? If so, good luck with that.

  9. I know it's unrealistic, but think of what a beautiful world it would be. The 40% of our prison population most equipped and most likely to commit the most atrocious and damaging crimes would never make it back into society. You're a sociopath. I'm sure you can see how rational that is, without all those pesky emotions getting in the way.

  10. 20%. My bad. Responsible for more than half of all violent crimes.

I don't care much for whatever happens to society. People will kill/rape/murder/etc. regardless of what they are.

It's good that you acknowledge how unrealistic it is though, particularly regarding the existence of human rights advocates who will protect the rights of even violent psychopaths in order to strengthen their ideology (i.e. craziness). You have humanitarians to thank for that.

  12. As long as there is science and there is such information in existence, there is an obligation to explore further. This is for the sake of our society as a whole and the well being of future sociopaths. No one chooses to be different than the majority. It makes for a lonely, difficult life wrought with confusion, isolation, anger and rejection, not just for the person who is directly affected but for all people affected by this person, whether it be family, lovers or victims. There may be no treatment now that we know of, but there certainly will not be if scientists do not continue to persue such important clues. Society, government and even science to some degree has turned it's back on mental health issues in general for a long time. It is time that it gets its due attention. I have no doubts that if it got the same attention as breast cancer and some other more popular physical illnesses we would see so much improvement in our society with regard to how all people co-exist. This blog fascinates me because I want to understand the people that I see everyday, not the way that I see them as an empath but as they really are. Only through that type of understanding can we accept others for who they are. It will require much more research and willingness by those affected to share thier experience in much the same way as M.E.. Thanks M.E. for doing such a great job in sharing your perspective with such objectivity and honesty.

    "People will kill/rape/murder/etc"

This is so true. They call us heartless, when they themselves are capable of the same monstrosities. Very amusing.

  19. My husband and I have been together for about five years. last month we got into an argument because i caught him cheating, i was heartbroken and i used to love him with all my heart, I was about to leave and asked him what’s on his agenda and he just ignored me. I got mad and cursed him out and left. He said that I am jealous and insecure which is a recurring theme in our arguments. i tried everything to repair our relationship but nothing came alright, luckily enough i was browsing on the internet and i saw testimony of clients who talked about Mr Robinson buckler and also i saw his email address robinsonbuckler @ (yahoo). com. i thought may be its also one of the scamming spell caster, but my heart was restless until i contacted him and i used his spell and it worked so nice, his spell made my husband to take me back as his wife, it also made my husband to love me more, anyone who want his or her lover back should contact Robinson buckler, call Mr Robinson on his mobile +1 971-512-6745
