Child sociopath? Surviving Newtown

One of my associates told me the story of the one child who survived the Newtown massacre when everyone else in her class died. How? By playing dead, aided by the blood of her classmates. She waited until everything had died down and then got out of there, in fact she was apparently one of the first people to leave the school. How was she capable of accomplishing this incredible feat? God, says some Pastor.

In an interview with ABC News, Pastor Jim Solomon said the girl laid among her 15 other classmates covered in blood until she felt it was safe to leave, "She ran out of the school building covered from head to toe with blood and the first thing she said to her mom was, 'Mommy, I'm OK but all my friends are dead."

Her quick decision truly shows her wisdom and ultimately saved her life. The Daily mail reported that she was the first person to run out of the school building, "Somehow in that moment, by God's grace, [she] was able to act as she was already deceased." Pastor Solomon added, "What did she see in there? Well, she saw someone who she felt was angry and somebody who she felt was mad. "He continued, "How at 6 and a half years old can you be that smart, that brave? I think it's impossible outside of divine intervention. She has wisdom beyond her years."

Now, I'm not saying it wasn't God, and I'm not saying that she is a child sociopath... But she behaved in a way that you would expect a child sociopath to also behave -- keeping her cool, calm and clear headed under pressure, exploiting an opportunity without little regard for her fellow students, all while seemingly knowing exactly what she was doing. Just another reason why having a child who may be a sociopath may not be the worst thing in the world.

    2. I'm not sure whether I'd be shocked, or proud if I were one of her parents. Proudly shocked.

      Shockingly proud.

    3. I would be appropriately shocked. Gotta blend in with the NT's. I'd be secretly proud. Then a little bit wary because sociopaths are assholes. But then I'd be more proud because I get to mold it/her more.

    4. I would be awe struck and so happy she was alive.

But why proud to mold her more?

    5. The 'Pastor' sure seems strangely pleased with what she did.

If I were one of the other parents, I'd be ready to strangle him because of that little comment of his.

The 'Pastor' seems a cover for the gruesome truth. Just my opinion.

    6. Proud to mold her more because a sociopath can be anything. Anything. And they will always succeed given the right environment and guidance. And as much as I don't want another prick of a sociopath cluttering up my world I would like to be the 'cool' parent who 'gets it' and can be constructive to her schemes and lies to other people. There isn't enough space in my world for two gods though so I can see our relationship turning internecine without proper discipline. Which I'm all too happy to give.

  5. I put this up here because I thought you could relate.

    Up From The Sofa

The lies in her childhood were like Ramen Noodles, but they were in sheets so large that you needed a forklift to move them. Ramen Noodles took on a life of their own, when you added water. They resembled parasites, pickled in large glass jars, in the biology lab. The parasites wound around each other. They looked like coiled snakes. You thought about where they were in your own body: what they were crowding out, perhaps. You knew they populated in a funky way. They could make dozens at a time, if not more.

Lies had to be blasted, as in sidewalk repair. You had to have your own form of blasting, such as running into a brick wall, head first. It was winner take all, or loser take eternity. Lies were like the Russian mafia. They played for keeps.

Really? To have a child that lacks empathy and can not return love and "may" self medicate when older.

  8. Hi Rich!!
I wanted to say something because Regulars here seem to take each others inventories. This is a part of SW that has helped me the most. Mine has been taken both positively and negatively ~
Much of the negative was true, even though I could not see it, at the time ( Hi UKan)

At any rate, I wanted to take yours. You make people feel good. You make people feel special. You pay attention to the details of people's lives. As warm as you are, you are not a wimp. You stand up for yourself, when needed. You can, also, laugh at yourself which is a huge positive. You have quite bit of self acceptance, even though you may not think so. You can face yourself honestly. You can talk about your flaws. All these traits will take you a long way in life!

    2. Wow!!!! Thank you Monica!!!! That was very nice and sweet of you to say :)

What a good way to start off my New year!!!!

Iam pretty touched by reading that! I Have always felt that you HAVE TO have a sense of humor about yourself, to me I think it is actually a good thing, hell if you cant joke about yourself, who else can you joke about?

I feel that I face myself pretty honestly, and have a certain level of self acceptance, I accept alot about myself but just as you say, I dont think/feel that I do accept myself as much as I probably do. But, that is okay for me, I can always work on it with time ;)

Thank you for such a nice, sweet and heartwarming post Monica!

I think 2013 is going to be a great year for you, you have come a LONG LONG way in 2012 and I definatly think "the best is yet to come" for you. I think this year is going to be a big year in your life with self acceptance, and facing you feelings, and the more you face those feelings and accept yourself, the more you will get away from your dissociation and feel like the real you, the real Monica the way you are meant to feel!!!!!!

:) I think this coming year is going to be great for both of us, and hopefully alot more people here at SW :)

    3. Anon- Laugh at others in what way? In a mean way? I think it is okay to laugh at others (If you cant laugh at others you probably cant laugh at yourself either) as long as it is not in a mean, evil, or vindictive way :)

I've also removed myself from the forum. I'm preparing to start therapy and don't see my involvement there as conducive to that. I still plan to read the daily blog post and comment occasionally if I feel inclined.

I want to give my impression of you, not that you asked, or want it, but I appreciate all you have offered me, here, so I want to offer my opinion to you.

I think you are very, very smart, but not just intellectually smart. You are smart about life and people. I think you are tough and don't let people in, easily, but you can let people in.

I think you are a very cool person, one of the coolest!

    7. Thanks, Monica. I plan to make sure the second half of my life isn't the series of trainwrecks the first half has been. I'm going to get therapy and then decide what to reinvent myself as next. I might finish my degree in psychology. We'll see what the future holds.

  11. Bah. You're projecting your own ideal image of a child onto this one.

And is classic of adults they utterly and tragically underestimate the intelligence of children. Well, some children. Children play pretend. Children suffer abuse. Children learn that when something bad happens you hide and make yourself as difficult to notice as possible. When you're scared, you hide. She just did it in the only place she could, out in the open.

ME -> The town where the massacre happened was Newtown not Newton.

  14. If the child lived through Newtown because it's a sociopath then it hardly matters that it survived - it isn't human and has nothing of value to give us.

  15. " exploiting an opportunity without little regard for her fellow students"
Standing still waiting for being shot doesn't make you more empath. I don't see anything sociopathic in her reaction. It's not like she had used a human shield.

  16. There is a huge difference betwren remaining cool-headed and resourseful in a crisis and being a sociopath. A sociopath puts his or her needs ahead of others; they don't care who they hurt. This little girl hurt no one else. She merely survived.
