Sort of.
A study led by Nicholas Holtzman and Michael Strube at Washington University in St. Louis found that people with personality traits known as the "Dark Triad" -- narcissism, Machiavellianism and psychopathy -- were better than others at using clothing, makeup and hairstyles to make themselves look attractive, Scientific American reported Tuesday.
They had people take diagnostic tests and took photos of them both in their normal clothes/make up and plain clothes:
Researchers found that in the first group of photos -- in which subjects wore their own clothes and makeup --subjects who scored high marks for the Dark Triad were typically rated as more attractive than subjects who scored low marks for these traits. This was also true of subjects who scored highly for psychopathy alone.
However, in the second group of photos, in which subjects were forced to wear plain clothing and no makeup, there was no correlation between physical attractiveness and "dark" personal traits.
As Julie Beck of PopSci writes, these results suggest that "mean people are just as ugly as the rest of us, they're just better at fooling everyone into thinking they're hot."
Is that what it means to have a good personal sense of style? You're just "fooling" people? Sounds like sour grapes to me.
1st and damn good looking

DeleteIt is always smart to look good...Goodlookin ppl always get treated better...I always try look my best. A meal always taste better when it looks appealing
ReplyDelete..
My mother had a saying which stuck with me:
Delete"Making love is like having a meal; you can eat from the ground like an animal, or you can treat yourself with the utmost gentleness by eating in a pleasant setting".
All personality disorders come with narcissism. It's only natural that people with personality disorders tend to spend more of their time in front of a mirror to look good.
ReplyDeleteYou maybe on to something. First we would have to clarify that by looking "good" you mean what the beholder thinks looks "good", right? Some PDs have the quirk of "behavior or appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar"… is that "good"?
DeleteI only mention this and ask these questions because you said ALL personality disorders… not just the "Dark Triad".
"All personality disorders come with narcissism."
DeleteUh, no. Avoidants, Dependents, Obsessive-Compulsives aren't narcissistic.
:) Good Morning my Sociopathworld friends!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have heard/read about this before, but in a different context.
ReplyDeleteThe one I read I believe they looked at the person LIVE, in person, instead of just looking at them through photographs.
I believe the reason they said that the male and female psychopaths were both more attractive to the opposite sex was because they both have abnormally high testosterone levels (even the women psychopaths do) and testosterone has something to do with attraction I believe.
it's got something to do with drive ppl with high tesosterone will do more to get what they want
Deletewill do more to win and that gives an avantage
and ofc everyone loves a winner

inclueding sexdrive ofc (in males and females)
Deletehi rich, great point. charisma can go al long way but might not show in a photo
DeleteAnon- Yep, that makes perfect sense as well everybody loves a winner and most love a high sex drive :)
DeleteZoe- That is why I thought it was a little odd that they could pick out the people drom the "dark triad" from photographs alone. I would think it would have to be an in person interaction.....

i've noticed this. two narcissists i knew were so annoying that when others finally saw through the mask, after being abused one too many times, they no longer gave them credit for anything good. maybe attractiveness can only carry you so far and a difficult personality no longer seems attractive?
so really we were only fooling ourselves.. by equating good personal style with niceness?
also i was just thinking back how i've never known any difficult and manipulative personalities who had natural beauty.. although i'm sure ME is the exception :) .. you know, the kind of beauty that allows spontaneity and comes from within, that shines, not vanishes, when you're caught off guard and being completely yourself.
Deleteif you're in a nightclub carefully posing and trying not to break a sweat, at the end of the night you'll never look as good as the people who were dancing for hours, sweat running down their bodies, makeup melted, hair flying, when the lights finally come on. the narcissists are in the shadows looking wilted, needing redoing, as if poisoned by all the physical energy around them. they're waiting to pick you up at the end of the night but it's not your body they're really after. they want to suck your mind.
:-O
You and I give our beloved M.E amnesty for everything :-)

Delete"maybe attractiveness can only carry you so far and a difficult personality no longer seems attractive?"
DeleteYES, YES,and YES!!!!!! You are completely right about that Zoe. The one very narcissistic girl I have dated was good looking, but once I saw her personality (actually, I should say LACK of personality) it turned me off to her and I couldnt stand even being around her anymore after I got to know who she TRULY was.
People who are assholes start to look less physically attractive to me until I just do not want to look at them anymore.
DeleteHow do we know that this is not monica 12:19?
DeleteBecause I am not monica?
Delete"Be an asshole but be nice about it."
ReplyDelete--Rembrant
lol i like that
DeleteI must say… I like that too. Nice Remy.
DeleteI have a new RL sociamedia stalker named Tommy. Just reminded me of that. Heh.
ReplyDeleteI promise it's not me… I'm just a simple ol' virus;-)
DeleteHow are you Haven? How was your Holidays?
Hey there ;)
DeleteI'm doing pretty well. And my holiday was shockingly wonderful. Yours? How've you been?
if you want something more you are more lightly to win and a sociopath wants it the most.
ReplyDeletethe paradox of the sociopath is he's really good at getting what he wants but he's all about the game and not so much about the pice
ReplyDeleteShe was going to turn around and kick that rat bastard in the nuts. This time, they would go mano a mano. She could be strong as horseradish, when she had to be. It was never too late.
ReplyDeleteThe next time, he called her, she would whip around and say "Yes, you WANTED something?" He would be surprised, but would not lose his game. He would dive for her soft underbelly( because he liked that) She would take out the hidden machete and rip him until he became akin to shredded wheat. She would throw the knife into the river. Then, she would be Rat Bastard free. She may celebrate with a a trip to the mall. It would not matter because any day is a holiday when you are Rat Bastard free. Wouldn't you know it?
lololololol!!!
DeleteI have a question ! Do sociopaths have children? I ask because after reading the symptoms of one ! It would appear they have a mild hatred fir man kind and believe themselves to be something better than mankind! So why would they reproduce a being of inferiority?
ReplyDeleteSeriously. They fuck everything they can so what do you think?
DeleteI think there more interested in fucking people over than to risk haveing kidds!
DeleteI believe sociopaths are the last of the demigod gods special creatures! Why else would we be given such ability
