Q&As (part 3)

(cont.)

Do all sociopaths have criminal tendencies?

There is a higher proportion of sociopaths in prison than there are normal people, but most sociopaths are not criminals by profession. Still, there are several traits that may dispose a sociopath to crime: impulsivity, lack of guilty feelings, and risk-seeking, among others.

Research shows that one in twenty-five people is a sociopath, yet most of us believe we’ve never met one. Are we just kidding ourselves? Are you able to spot them?

Statistically, everyone has met at least one sociopath; further, most people will have a closer encounter with a sociopath at some point in their lives, either as a friend, family member, or lover. Sometimes I can tell who they are. I find that many successful sociopaths will leave breadcrumbs for you to discover who they are, the thought being that only other sociopaths would recognize them. I think sociopaths, like serial killers, often have a yearning to be acknowledged for who they are. They want people to admire their exploits and that is hard to do when they are completely hidden, so they make small compromises.

You are a lawyer, and a professor at a law school. How has being a sociopath made you good at those jobs?

Some clients can be despicable people, but even they deserve adequate legal representation. The best lawyers are the ones who are able to detach themselves from emotionally or morally reacting to their clients’ stories. That has never been a problem for me. As for teaching, the best teachers present material in an even, unbiased way that will be the most palatable to the audience. My professors would often try to hide their own personal ideologies or incorporate other, foreign learning styles into their lecture plans. I do these things very naturally.

Do sociopaths have emotions?

Sociopaths have emotions, but they do not give their emotions the same meaning that most people do. Many people believe that their emotions are expressions of “Truth”-- that if they feel hurt, it is because someone hurt them. Sociopaths experience their emotions largely without context. Except perhaps for anger, sociopaths do not experience a strong cause-and-effect relationship between reality and their emotions. For sociopaths, emotions have a disjointed, dreamlike quality. So a sociopath is not likely to make emotional decisions based on anything besides anger.

  1. Sociopath teachers are actually something really nice, but seriously, they can be a pain in the ass, because they'll outplay you all the time, and win every discussion, which is frustrating sometimes.

The one that I know bragged to me. I actually love this person a great deal. But no matter how many times I ask them to stop hurting me they won't.

He was actually a a very close friend of mine. He will never apologize or admit to anything. I have never had a person refuse to apologize to me before.

It is beyond belief to me that such a person could exist.

And he is not a horrible criminal. He has a family and kids and a ton of people who love him very much.

But it is true what M.E. says about them being slow leaners and inability to learn from their mistakes. Also their complete lack of love or remorse.

    It literally breaks my heart.

    1. Why should he stop? What tangible reason beyond you asking is there for him to stop/apologise/admit. Is it because your little heart has owies. He is not a slow learner, because this is not a lesson he need learn. You my dear anon scream of pathetic, it's disgusting

Monica do you think this is a reason for people who got abused to get fucked up and start thinking they might have been a sociopath, like you?? Is that a narc thing as well?

    1. I was very smart and could see through people and situations. I trusted myself until my early teens when I thought there must be something wrong with me because my mother was crazy and my father and everyone seemed to think she was OK, so *I* must be the one who is crazy. Then, I started wondering if I was a sociopath because I had cold, clean kind of sight that M.E describes.

Right now, I am not sure exactly what is wrong with me. I am numb. I think that is my main problem.

    2. The other Q&As are simple and true, but I don't get the last one either, what are disjointed, dreamlike emotions?

    3. I feel like maybe it means they are not triggered by others for the most part, sort of like with bipolar disorder where moods do not need external circumstances to change. Perhaps the emotions are thought-based like how pragma is the form of love that is based upon someone meeting a person's constructed ideal. They may be vague compared to that of an empath. I know I always feel more amorous when I'm bored. If I'm not truly infatuated with someone I will convince myself I am deeply enamored with this half-concocted idea of them just to allow for some mental/emotional stimulation. But my feelings are never...fresh or hot. I can be depressed but seldom sad. I can be intrigued, obsessed, but not really in love.

    5. If it's not anger, then it's probably an emotion elicited by an unusual circumstance. I respond emotionally to choreographed situations such as in movies or TV shows that would not phase me in reality. The emotions feel false and out of place, like waking from a vivid dream, and they're just as fleeting.

Yes, this unbiased teaching is necessary but don't you think the students learn and are more interested when a teacher/professor has passion? Isn't passion needed - to become a mentor.
    I believe so.

  10. I come here when I really need help. I feel like I am going crazy. I feel like I am holding myself back by the small core of sanity I have from the love of my grandmother. Without this, I think I would have been mental institution insane. However, I go deep down into my roots and hold on like I am now. I tell myself that I can't go crazy. There is no place to go, if I do.

I don't know how to describe what it going on. I broke ties with my parents and my father wrote me a guilt note that he loved me and our relationship was separate from mine and my mothers. However, I don't believe it. She destroys people and he drags them back because he is "nice and kind".I think they are a team that works like a well oiled clock.

I have been praying a lot and asking God to help me. God showed me that neither one of them loved me, as you don't do what they did( both of them) if you love someone. I didn't realize this, in the gut.

Now, I SEE things the way I used to. I see through people. I wonder if it is true. I have another person in my family who I think is trying to undermine me, even though he says he is my friend. My gut tells me no.My head tells me I am crazy.

My head is telling me I am crazy and weird and I feel so upset. Does anyone understand.

    8. You are welcome, Monica. I hope you are feeling better today.

Is Brig right, Monica? He called you "empath". You are what people call an empath?? You are a numb empath?

Because i can see from the way you interact with me that you are sympathetic and caretaking and you have so much to give. But i do not see empath on you. (( I see manipulative and psycho but we can keep that between ourselves if you want))

I don't want to call myself Gloom anymore, Monica. A few days is enough. I will think of something else.

    9. How so--manipulative and psycho?
I think an empath just has empathy. That is how I see it, anyway.

      Delete
    10. Yeah, I was just referring to those with empathy with the word "empath." Monica has empathy, she also had some other psychiatric disorder involving dependence, anxiety, and a distorted view of the world

      Delete
    11. no there is the kind of empath which feels people around them. I can see what others feel. I dont take on their emotions but i can see on their face and body to determine what to do. People really like me for that. I can even cause an angry or mean person to let their guard down. It is generous trait.

I thought Monica had that^ too, not that she is an "empath"

    15. I think you are pathetic. And I gotta tell you, I really really enjoyed your reaction to my scheme about Rich's death. I was the "friend" that came and told everyone he died. I have no idea where he is, I just thought it would be fun to fuck with everyone and stir up some crazy reactions. You made it even more entertaining than I ever dreamed it could be.

      Delete
    16. Are you serious about Rich? You could be lying about the whole thing, now.
Why am I pathetic to you? Be specific?

      Delete
    17. I could be lying, but I am not. In fact, I have proof: go back to the day where the "friend" (me) wrote that he ODed. Under that comment, after you asked additional questions, you will see a place where "M. Brig had removed their comment." That is where I forgot to log out of my account and switch to Anonymous to reply. So I made a different comment as M. Brig, and waited a little while so it wouldn't seem suspicious, and then posted again as the Anon Friend.

    18. I did notice that actually. Wow, so maybe he did not die. That sucks M Brig. I have lost all respect for you. You are a sick AH.

    19. Hahaha yeah, I know. And do you realize, Monica, that this site contains sociopaths like myself? And if you've learned anything about sociopaths from your countless hours spent on here trying to find meaning in your life, you'd know that we do things like that all the time. And you'd also know that I don't give a fuck about whether or not you respect me or think I am "sick." If I am sick in your mind, all socios are sick.. So maybe you should stop coming here and isolate yourself once again, trying to find meaning in your insignificant life.

    22. And by the way, you're lying to yourself if you think all socios don't manipulate and destruct like that

    23. Not all sociopaths are assholes. Just because you are, don't put every other sociopath on here in the same category :D
