Hitler was anything but a sociopath, but I have read Goering and especially Heydrich described as such. Kenneth Branagh's portrayal of the latter in Conspiracy is mesmerizing. His domination of a room full of eichmanns (of whom Eichmann is only the most famous) is an art form.

I happened to just watch the 2000 television drama Nuremberg, with Hermann Goering played by Brian Cox (who won an Emmy for his performance). Also fascinating, particularly Goering charming his cell guard.
DeleteM.E. might find it interesting. It's one of history's most prominent court trials, with a sociopath as star defendant.
There's a bit of gratuitous and poorly aimed sociopath-bashing, with a prominent line about a lack of empathy as the definition of evil. Rudolf Hoess is also presented as blatantly sociopathic, which I find rather dubious from what I've read of him. Nevertheless, I found it quite powerful.
I don't know this is antisocial spectrum thing, but I find the Nazi period and totalitarian and genocidal regimes generally fascinating. I keep trying to get my friends to watch some of these films with me, so I can observe their reactions and compare with mine. But they say it's too heavy to be enjoyable. I find it ironic that empaths so often refuse to reflect upon what they themselves consider the most morally serious issues precisely because empathy makes thinking about it too painful.
So why then has Adolf been labeled the God of psychopaths? Most of the folks doing the dirtywork for the nazis were not (THAT is the incredible thing) sociopaths but ordinary empaths ruled by the powerful combination: authority (in uniform) + peer pressure. But Adolf sure was a "fanatic psycho" driven by obsessions & fuelled by DRUGS! Most of the famous ranting, raving stuff apparently had to do with heroin addiction. This could also explain the decisions to declare war on the whole world; not exactly the MO of a cold, calculating psycho. Masochism also played at vital part: the guy WANTED ragnarok, wanted to be punished. And he sure got what he looked for. A strange psychopath indeed..

ReplyDeleteOf course German normal and empath sheeples did as they were told and were 'inspired' to do: they were angry at Germany's humiliation after WWI and the lousy economy. Scapegoats were handy and plentiful.

Hitler was highly emotional, addicted and probably at times psychotic. But that's not to say he's not also high on the antisocial scale. I would suggest that genocide, whether perpetrated by normals, empaths or socios indicates a propensity for 'feeling' superior to others, entitled and thus righteous in committing heinous crimes in the name of 'progress' or whatever. Humans have done this since we walked upright. Probably before that.
Hitler was fueled by narcissism, a sense of superiority and some weird emotive drive I can't label but can smell across time. Watching news-reels of Hitler's speeches, reading Mien Kampf?, chills the blood -- that's why Adolf has been labeled a psychopath.
Rotten eggs, like rotting corpses, stink to heaven. Even a dumb innocent baby would crinkle their nose at Hitler's dangerously erratic mood swings. What's rather incredible to me is that so many nations trusted him when it seems obvious that he was lethally troubled.
As for beloved American presidents being high on the scale, I've no doubt. The animal symbol for America is the eagle -- a spectacular predator. Americans also love gangsters, who we all know whack each other when 'necessary.' It's nothing personal. ;)
Time for hot cocoa and a little bible reading. Genesis and Revelations sound about right for my mood. :)

I actually started thinking about reading Genesis again because of the post on SW about how something invisible, i.e., ideas, become so powerful. "And God said, "let there light: and there was light."
If only it were that simple to bring a light to earth, 2015. Still, words are spoken ideas that do manifest concrete events in the real world.
Post-cocoa musings on this tangled topic are probably best left unsaid. More wine is required for my brooding to make sense.

You are absolutely correct-words are powerful and create. It is that simple, to bring a light to Earth 2015-it tells you how to get it, in that book your holding.:) You don't even have to read the book-all you have to do is ask.:) I have it.:) I have run into people throughout my life, that have complimented me, on my "Beautiful Aura".:) The first time, I was a teenager and didn't know what they meant, and was a little disturbed. ReplyDeletePS-You mentioned a theory earlier, that is very close to what I believe. I believe we are all a piece of "Heaven on Earth".:) Once here, we are given the free will to decide what we want. If we want to go back to Heaven, we have to use our free will to make that decision and ask for it. If we do, we are light on Earth, and will return to Heaven, when we leave here. Then, we will be in the land where "Blind Men See" and "Golden Streams", like it talks about, in the Creed song "Higher" I mentioned earlier.:)

DeleteI named my cat beastie boy because he's untamable. Wild to the bone: I have scars from his playful antics. He likes leaving his indelible mark on others. Always polite when guests come, until they relax, that is. He's frightened a socio I know half to death.
I do like writing stories. Legal stuff bores me and I've got to write out a long piece to submit to a tribunal, plus finish an article. Not fun.

Adolf, genuine psycho for sure: a gambler, used "his aura" to intimidate others (knew about it), lied shamelessly, exterminated without passion (looked at pictures of it), control-freak, never ever blamed himself for anything etc etc..
