ReplyDeletehmm supposedly sagitarius likes to travel. Ive definitly done some traveling, but not always really my thing. My dad likes to go to asia 6 months out of the year. I dont get it. He luvs that world travel stuff. I do other things like get a job for 3 months in a cool place, quit and then go to another cool place for a few months, then quit haha :D Im horrible with commitment. I think my next stop is france.

ReplyDeleteAccording to chirping birds sociopaths ENJOY to see others being hurt or mentally harassed. But surely they don´t care all that much? Why cannot the blood-red world of serial killers be separated from the more sterile socio landscape?

ReplyDeleteThis doesn't mean decisions are irrational. Brains are statistical machines, driving at goals through probability calculations based on learnings of previous experience and our model of understanding the world.
I would be very surprised if this part of the decision making process were different in sociopaths / psychopaths.
There are key differences in other parts of the process, however.
Firstly, the emotional content of the learning process is different. Non psychopaths feel adverse outcomes more than psychopaths and so aversive reactions to particular contexts are more easily learnt. The important question we ask of experience is "why?" What are the correlations? This is the chief and most useful role of our cognitive powers: determining associations, patterns and correlations to understand what precursors lead to what outcomes. Both psychopaths and non psychopaths do this and the better they do it, the more functional they are. This is what gives us our model for operating in the world.
Secondly, assessment of situations is more emotionally driven in non psychopaths. This means the learnings from the past wave their flags for attention through feelings of jealousy, for example, or anger, or joy. In the past, a similar context led to a bad thing, or a good thing. Or, hang on, I'm not being treated fairly here! Find out the answer to this question! What's really happening?
Our assessment process can't continue until those feelings have been heard. It literally halts until we properly consider the message our feelings are telling us.
This doesn't mean we have to act on our feelings. It means we do need to hear them, or we get stuck. Most social problems occur when we get stuck at this stage and take the emotion for a decision. It's really just a message. Healthy people, people with secure attachment styles, are usually pretty good at moving through this stage. Other people tend to have rigid and inflexible patterns of response. I don't know about psychopaths at this stage. I presume the model simply presents itself and the choice is clear, with less processing required. The downside is that sometimes lessons aren't learned or the value placed on lessons is diminished to almost nothing by the lure of reward.
Whether processing completes fully or is truncated, our rational mind then creates a justification for our choice that we can present to the people around us. Psychopaths certainly do this part of the process too. They are most adept at it.
